The Truett Nolan Pinot Noir is a very special
wine to us. For each of our children we have produced a special wine from
grapes grown in their birth year - the 1999 Christian David Pinot Noir, the 2003 Amber
Rose Pinot Noir, and now the 2006 Truett Nolan Pinot Noir. Our third child,
Truett Nolan, was born April 17, 2006.
The Truett Nolan Wine is a blend of 50% Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir (from the Green
Valley in the Russian River), 25% Sonatera Vineyard Pinot Noir (from the Sonoma
Coast), and 25% Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir (from the Santa Rita Hills). We
went through and tasted numerous different possible blends before we arrived at this
combination. We then racked the barrels together by gravity and went back to barrel.
All told, we kept this wine in barrel for 16 months and bottled it unfined and unfiltered.
The Truett Nolan Pinot Noir is designed to be a wine of great balance with richness
and yet enough backbone and acidity to allow it to age well. It already demonstrated
complex red and black fruit flavors as well as hints of herbs and earth. The finish is
long, closing down now and only hinting at the overall greatness that the wine possesses.
We would imagine this wine would age well for up to 10 years.
Production: 192 cases

~ Medium-deep ruby color; bit closed and yet deep aromas of black cherry and spice; deep, rich dark cherry, spice and earthy flavors with layers of flavor; silky texture; sweet oak notes; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep and promising, this Pinot shows only a little bit of its potential at this time. This is one for the cellar. This bottling is a special one dedicated to the birth of Adam and Dianna Lee's third child, Truett Nolan Lee, in 2006. It's a blend of Pinot from Keefer Ranch (50%)Sonatera Vineyard (25%) and Clos Pepe Vineyard (25%) and thus carries a California appellation.
