Winemakers' Comments
We have produced a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir infrequently over the years and only in vintages where we discover select barrels that are higher in quality than our broader Sonoma County offering but not quite distinctive enough to make the cut for the single-vineyard wines. The 2005 vintage produced several such barrels but, after numerous blending attempts, we settled on a mere four-barrel blend for the 2005 Siduri Sonoma Coast offering.

The 2005 Siduri Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from the Terra de Promissio Vineyard (clone 777) and also the Sonatera Vineyard (clones 115, 667, and Pommard). Blending this many clones together in such a small lot is unusual but certainly helped us increase this wine’s complexity and panorama of flavors. The 2005 Siduri Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir reflects the flavors that we best associate with the Sonoma Coast appellation. The wine possesses red berry fruit, a unique spice profile, and an earth-driven, forest floor flavored mid-palate. As an appellation wine, the Sonoma Coast is immediately drinkable but, we do find that it has very good levels of natural acidity and, if there is one appellation wine that we think will age well, this would be it.
