Winemakers' Comments
We were actually worried that the crop at the Hirsch Vineyard in 2004 would be too small to produce truly high quality wine (we have the same worry in 2005, by the way). We harvested only 1.485 tons out of almost 3 acres. Such tiny crops can suffer during late season heat spikes with sugars skyrocketing far ahead of flavors. But, despite 2004’s hot harvest weather, this did not seem to be a problem for our section of the Hirsch Vineyard. In fact, when blending this wine we found ourselves ranking it up there with the 1995, 1999, and 2002 as one of our favorite Hirsch offerings. The 2004 Siduri Hirsch is deep and concentrated (undoubtedly due to the low yields) and yet has lively acidity which keeps it fresh on the palate. The flavors are of dark cranberry and black cherries along with hints of underbrush. This “forest floor” character is something of a defining characteristic in our best Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noirs. This wine also possesses excellent length and ripe, fully mature tannins. As with most of our Hirsch Pinot Noirs we believe that this wine should age extremely well and develop into a truly balanced, complex Pinot Noir.

A distinctive style, ripe and racy, with vivid accidity and fresh, vibrant wild berry and raspberry flavors, turning elegant and cleansing on the finish. Drink now through 2009. - JL
