The 2018 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard is fabulous. Silky, perfumed and supple, the 2018 offers a compelling expression of this site. All the elements meld together in a Pinot that is incredibly delicious and inviting. Black cherry, plum, leather, licorice and lavender build into the refined, nuanced finish.

About This Wine

2016 CLOS PEPE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR – STA. RITA HILLS
The Clos Pepe Vineyard in Santa Barbara’s Sta. Rita Hills AVA is undoubtedly one of our most famous vineyards. Sometimes fame is undeserved and sometimes it is fleeting, but neither of those is anywhere close to true when it comes to Clos Pepe. This vineyard is the real deal and we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have worked with fruit from Clos Pepe since 2000. The East-West valleys of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA–located about 12 miles from the California coastline- pull cold air off the Pacific with sea-bed soils that intensely limit vigor.

2018 VINTAGE
The 2018 growing season stood in stark contrast to the challenges and extremes of 2017. After experiencing a string of drought-affected vintages and earlier picking times, 2018 provided a well-deserved breath of fresh air for grape growers and winemakers. Temperatures in the Sta. Rita Hills routinely peaked in the 70’s throughout the summer months, with only a handful of days climbing over 80 degrees in June and July. The mild summer led to mild and dry fall weather without any major heat events, which allowed fruit to ripen evenly on the vine. These factors contributed to a later start to harvest than previous vintages. The mild weather and lack of fall rain produced rich, opulent wines with intense color and aromatics

AROMATICS:
Raspberry, strawberry, rose petal and pine resin

PALATE:
Boysenberry, black cherry, nutmeg and star anise. Pop of fruit on the entry is lengthened by delicate tannic grip and freshened by pleasant acidity.
