The Susan’s Hill Vineyard is at the Southern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA of Monterey County. It is located at the highest and steepest point of the Pisoni Vineyard. The combination of a great location, superb farming and the outstanding 2014 vintage has truly allowed us to produce a remarkable Susan’s Hill Syrah. We retained 15% whole clusters, crushing the remaining fruit on top of these bunches. Given the small quantity, we fermented this wine in one-ton open top bins, punching them down by hand twice daily. At the end of fermentation, the wine was pressed to tank and after one day of settling, drained by gravity to French oak. The wine aged in barrel until Spring 2016, when it was racked to tank and bottled without fining or filtration. Only 6 barrels were produced of this outstanding Syrah.
