The key to making this Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah is the blending of the cooler, more complex and earthy Syrah from the Garys’ Vineyard with the bigger, richer, warmer Syrah yields from the Sierra Mar and Susan’s Hill Vineyard. We went through numerous possible blends before we decided upon this particular wine, which comes primarily from the Garys’ Vineyard. The 2014 Novy Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah mixes blackberry and smoked meat aromas. On the palate, the wine shows both cooler and warmer flavor aspects, as olive and earth mix with more forward black fruits such as plum. The finish is quite lively, with good levels of acidity carrying these flavors forward and promising a long life ahead.
