We picked the 2014 Garys’ Vineyard Syrah on October 6, 2014, an early harvest for this vineyard. We divided the fruit into two different lots, one with 50% whole cluster while the other lot was completely destemmed. We punched down the wine during the cold soak and throughout the fermentation process, and finally pressed the wine off after 18 days on the skins. Aged in all French oak, with only 16% new, for 16 months, this Syrah bottled in the Spring of 2016. Only six barrels were produced, and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration. Wine writer Doug Wilder described this wine as “dialed in with crisp red fruit, cherry and raspberry with notes of graphite.” And Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine featured the Garys’ Syrah in an article entitled “Don’t Miss These Superb Syrahs.” We certainly think this is a Syrah that shouldn’t be missed.
