Ever since our first Cargasacchi
Vineyard Pinot Noir in 2001, this wine has been one our most highly anticipated (and
highly regarded) releases. We did a few things differently with the 2006 vintage. Specifically
we:
• Increased significantly the amount of whole clusters used in the blend. We did this by
sorting the clusters for the ripest stemmed bunches and layering them into already
crushed fruit.
• We bled off a significant amount of juice from both the bins and the tank. This concentrated
the must making for a weightier wine.
• We were especially selective in coming up with the final blend on this wine using only
45% of the barrels in our final blend.
The 2006 Siduri Cargasacchi Vineyard Pinot Noir shows pronounced pomegranate, cherry,
and floral characteristics on the nose (very common with the use of whole clusters in a
wine). In the mouth there are more dark fruits, hints of earth and game and also a distinct
minerality to the tannins. This is a rich, yet serious wine, with sufficient structure to age
and the complexity to make for fascinating drinking over the next 5 or more years.
