The Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir has been our flagship Pinot Noir for quite a few years now. Wine writer Robert Parker tasted this wine just prior to bottling and rated it 92-94 points and described it thusly, “Once again, the superstar of this group is the 2005 Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard, which offers more of everything - fragrance, fruit, body, nuance, and nobility. Pisoni is an outstanding grand cru site for Pinot Noir, and virtually every estate making wine from this vineyard seems to hit a home run.” Obviously, we appreciate the great review, but it wasn’t a slam dunk arriving at the final blend on this wine. We worked at blending the various components (3 different vineyard sections, different yeast choices, and multiple barrels) together and ultimately arrived at a wine that we think is fantastic—but is also approximately 40% smaller in production than the previous vintage. This type of increase in quality and decrease in production can be financially difficult but we believe that it was necessary to produce the finest possible Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir. As always, the 2005 Siduri Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of our biggest Pinot Noirs, yet is also demonstrates a sense of balance as well as the lower alcohol levels that are typical of the 2005 vintage. The wine shows the dark blackberry fruit, the rich, velvet-like mouthfeel, and the good level of natural acidity that helped define this vineyard in 2005. Our Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noirs have traditionally aged very well and we certainly expect that to be the case with this offering.
