The Hawk’s View Vineyard from the northern end of the Willamette Valley was once part of the Muirfield Vineyard but, because of a series of ownership changes, is now its own separate entity. During these ownership changes the vineyard size was greatly increased and it was planted to a multitude of different clones. We have selected one particular section of the vineyard as ours, on a decent slope with well-drained soils, and entirely planted to the Wadenswil clone. We picked the vineyard on October 12, 2005, harvesting only 3.2 tons out of 1.7 acres of fruit. We did a small saignee on the wine and then fermented it using native yeasts. Once in barrel, we selected only the finest barrels for the final wine, ending up with a mere 5 barrels produced of this vintage. This pretty, ruby colored wine showcases raspberries, earth, and a delicate hint of cinnamon and cherries. Honestly, it smells almost as much like a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir as one from the Willamette Valley. Medium in weight in the mid-palate, this is a wonderful food wine because of its refreshing finish created by its mouthwatering acidity.
