Winemakers' Comments
The 2005 Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a blend of 49% Rosella’s Vineyard, 29% Pisoni Vineyard, and 22% Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir. To come up with this blend we tasted thru all of the barrels from these three remarkable vineyards (5 clones, 14 different cooperage types) and selected barrels that we felt well represented the broader Santa Lucia Highlands appellation and also demonstrated a more forward and immediate fruit character. We then blended these barrels together, tasted the final blend, tweaked it a touch by adding in 60 gallons from the final Pisoni blend (it helped give it a touch more structure) and bottled it without fining or filtration.
The 2005 Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir is a superb example of what
we are trying to accomplish with our appellation blends. It has great immediate
appeal and, although it might not make old bones, its forward fruit and enticing
character makes it hard to resist right now.

Accolades for the 2005 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

88 POINTS

Wine writer Robert Parker described it this way, “The generic 2005 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands exhibits sweet black currant and cherry fruit, a seductive personality, decent acidity, and ripe tannin. It should be consumed during its first 4-5 years of life.”
