Winemakers' Comments
Ewald Vineyard was a new source for us in 2004. The vineyard is located a
stone’s throw away from two legendary vineyards: Dehlinger and Kistler. With
neighbors like that, who wouldn’t want to move into the neighborhood? 2005 was a hallmark vintage for RRV with a long, cool growing season and no heat spikes, which produced a more tightly focused wine that went beyond the normal Bing cherry, and cedar notes, offering complexity with layers of earthiness and underbrush. On the palate, the wine offers up strawberries and raspberries lightly touched with a hint of vanilla framed by silky tannins.
As the wine opens up it will show that it is indeed classic Russian River pinot
noir: dark cherries and tobacco. Because of the perfect acidity, the wine has
perfect grip, and will go excellent with food. Although very pretty in the glass
right now, it will age beautifully and develop further in the bottle. Drink now
or hold up to 7 years.

92 POINTS - This is one of the first important 2005 Russian River Pinots to hit the market, and it's an exciting hint to the eagerly awaited vintage. It was a cool, long hangtime year, and this wine is amazingly rich and deep in chocolaty cherry, black raspberry and cola flavors. For all that, the wine is dry, supple and delicately tannic, and seems to have a fine future.
