Winemakers' Comments
The Sonatera vineyard is located in a very cold, windy part of the Sonoma coast appellation called the Petaluma gap. It is always a challenge for grower Marne Coggin to produce decent size crop because of the often harsh weather at the vineyard site. 2004 produced a healthy sized crop and beautiful fruit. This Sonoma Coast vineyard always offers an interesting combination of flavors. The wine has aromas of rosemary, underbrush, rhubarb, raspberries and cherries. It is a very layered and complex wine. As the wine opens up over the course of an hour aromas of cloves and vanilla show their face. Although tight at first, the 2004 Sonatera opens up into a full bodied, lush Pinot Noir that is unmistakably Sonoma Coast.
